Bringing performing artists into schools and community settings, Kadam offers inspiring, invigorating and creative learning experiences.
South Asian dance covers many different styles: the classical traditions which have evolved over many centuries, the folk dances which are freer and more spontaneous and creative adaptations of these forms. Likewise, South Asian music divides into classical, folk and popular forms with an array of regional differences in style and instrumentation. Movement, melody, expression, colour and rhythm come together in these subtle art forms, which are alive and growing in Britain today.
As well as complementing the Dance, Music and P.E curriculum by developing skills such as co-ordination, teamwork and musicality, Kadam’s workshops provide participants with an opportunity to express themselves creatively and cultivate a deeper understanding of other cultures.
Kadam’s workshops may either focus on dance or music separately or use a combination of the two. Dance workshops are offered in classical or Bollywood styles, whilst music workshops may focus on voice, percussion or melody through the concept of Raga.
Kadam believes that dance and music are for everyone. School children, teenagers, adults, people with special needs including those with restricted mobility and older people can all enjoy South Asian dance and music.
Professional artists who have experience working in an educational setting lead the workshops which are tailored to fit the level and particular needs of the group and can be focussed on themes to link with the groups’ current focus of learning.
