Odissi
Odissi has emerged from the mid north-eastern area of India, the state of Orissa. The style is marked by the tribhanga (three bend) stance. This use of the torso gives a flowing and sensuous quality to the dance. The tribhanga is contrasted with the chauka (square) stance in which the arms are held at right angles to the shoulders and knees turned out similarly.
