Odissi

Odissi has emerged form the mid north eastern area, the state of Orissa. The style is marked by the tribhanga (three bend) stance. The use of the torso gives a flowing and sensuous quality to the dance. The tribhanga is contrasted with the chauka (square) stance in which the arms are held at right angles to the shoulders and knees turned out similarly.
